For over 89 years, the American Red Cross of Kankakee County has served residents of the county.
Thanks to the dedication of over 170 volunteers, we continue our mission of helping people prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters by providing emergency and disaster assistance and education, military assistance, and health & safety training.
When a disaster threatens or strikes, the Red Cross is there. In 2009, we responded to 32 local disaster incidents. Your Red Cross provided immediate food, clothing, shelter and referral services to 106 victims, who lost homes or apartments and their contents due to fire.
From First Aid, CPR and AED training to swimming and lifeguarding, American Red Cross programs help people lead safer and healthier lives. A total of 3,557 people enrolled in CPR, Automated External Defibrillator and First Aid classes. A total of 433 people enrolled in Aquatics and Water Safety Instruction.
Through our Armed Forces Emergency Services network, we provided 305 local case services including relay of military communiciations; counseling in personal and family problems; information and referral; and other military inquiries.
We depend on volunteers of all ages and backgrounds to carry on our work.

to our communities.
In 2009, 173 volunteers made the work of the chapter possible, contributing 12,327 hours.
The chapter office is open Monday through Friday,8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Community Health & Safety classes are held monthly at the chapter office.

Blood drives are conducted every Thursday from 12:15 to 6:15 p.m.
Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are always welcome!
Last year our Blood Services Division collected 5,573 units of blood.
