Designed for parents, community organizations, schools and employees of local businesses, Red Cross courses combine lectures, demonstrations and video with hands-on skills training and practice. Upon successful completion, participants earn Red Cross certification, the emergency-training credential accepted by OSHA and public safety agencies nationwide. The cost of each class is listed individually, however, if you take more than one class the cost is $35 for the first component and then for every other component you add an additional $5. (Example: taking Adult CPR is $35, adding Child/Infant CPR is additional $5 for a total of $40 for the class.)
Community First Aid & Safety One of our most popular safety offerings, this 9-hour course is great for families, childcare workers and schools. The course combines CPR and First Aid training to teach participants how to recognize emergencies and take action; use the EMS system effectively; recognize and care for breathing emergencies on infants, children and adults; minimize the effects of shock; perform first aid for cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, bleeding, sprains and strains; treat sudden illnesses including poinsoning and heat and cold emergencies.
This offering satisfies the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services licensing requirement. Upon successful completion, participants earn a 1-year Community CPR Certificate and a 3-year First Aid Certificate. Cost: $40
Adult CPR Focusing on Adult CPR skills only, this course teaches participants to call and work with EMS; recognize breathing and cardiac emergencies that call for CPR; perform CPR and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies; avoid bloodborne pathogen exposure; and know the role of AEDs in the cardiac chain of survival. Upon successful completion, participants earn a 1-year Adult CPR Certificate. Cost: $30
Infant/Child CPR Designed for anyone who cares for children, participants in this class learn how to use the EMS system effectively; and recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in infants and children under the age of 8 years. Upon succcessful completion, participants earn a 1-year Infant/Child CPR Certificate. Cost: $30
Community CPR Focusing on CPR skills only, this course teaches participants how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in infants, children and adults; call and work with EMS; find and correct potential hazards in the home; prepare for emergency situations; and stay healthy by reducing lifestyle risks of heart disease. Upon successful completion, participants earn a 1-year Community CPR Certificate. Cost: $30
First Aid Basics This class covers first aid techniques for various emergencies. Daycare providers may use this class to meet the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services licensing requirements. Upon successful completion, partipants earn a 3-year First Aid Basics Certificate. Cost: $30
Adult CPR & AED (Automated External Defibrillation) Focusing on typical automated external defibrillator (AED) equipment, this course features hands-on simulation, lectures and live and video demonstrations. Participants learn to call and work with EMS; care for conscious and unconscious choking victims; perform rescue breathing and CPR; use an AED safely for a victim of sudden cardiac arrest; and use an AED when CPR is in progress. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a 1-year Adult CPR & AED Certificate. Cost: $35
Recertifications/Challenges The purpose of a challenge or recertification session is to give individuals the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge and skill competency outside a formal class setting. Participants have sole responsibility for preparing for the written exam and skill evaluations. Challenges and recertifications are conducted every day of the week. Call for an appointment. Cost: $35 for regularly scheduled sessions. Fee for individual one-on-one testing is $45.
CPR for the Healthcare Professional Designed for any individual who has a duty to respond to emergencies, this course combines lectures and video with hands-on skills training. Topics include recognizing and responding to breathing and cardiac emergencies; two-rescuer CPR techniques for drowning and other special situations; using resuscitation and bag-valve masks; preventing disease transmission and reducing personal risks of cardiac disease. Upon successful completion, participants earn a 1-year CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certificate. Cost: $65 (includes textbook and pocket mask.)
Pet First Aid
The American Red Cross now offers Dog and Cat First Aid.These classes are designed for pet owners and other people concerned with proper care for cats and dogs.
The course icludes Dog First Aid and Cat First Aid books, comprehensive guides that include everything owners need to know to keep their pets healthy and safe. From basic pet owner responsibilities like spaying, neutering, administering medications, managing breahting and cardiac emergencies and preparing for desasters, these guides offer information and advice pet owners can trust.
Dog First Aid and Cat First Aid also feature an easy-to-use first aid reference guide that covers nearly 70 health topics. The accompanying DVD showes step-by-step how to manage a variety of urgent care situations, including car accidents, wounds, electrical shock, eye, foot and ear injuries. For the health and safety of family pets and peace of mind for the whole family Dog First Aid and Cat First Aid will be the guides owners will turn to again and again.
Dog and Cat First Aid classes are 2 hours long, the cost is $35 for 1 person and $50 for a couple. First Aid books with DVD for Dogs or Cats are for sale at a cost of $17 each.
